Back in the 1980's and the days of Windows 3.1 there was a cute little graphics program
called Cartoonmania. It allowed you to pick cartoon objects from a library, arrange them
on a page, color them, and add word balloons. What was so neat about it was that it
allowed you to create your own cartoons for advertisements. It was a very cute product,
but the developer disappeared and so did the product.
To fill this void, along comes the Visions
and Images Design Studio and their incredible CD-ROM called The Heroic Collection.
This professional group of artists has pooled their talents and experience to create a CD
jammed with lively and colorful, original comic book art suitable for print or web-based
advertising.
The quality of the drawings is excellent. The characters are original creations of the
design team, but they bear enough similarity to existing comic book characters so that
they will have a certain element of familiarity to viewers.
The library consists of 40 powerful men and women characters, good guys and bad guys,
in various poses. Additionally, the artists have included background graphics such as city
skylines and brick walls, along with popular comic book exclamations such as
"WAP!", "BAM!" and "KABOOM!" and a bunch of different
thought bubbles and word balloons. Working with a tool such as Adobe Illustrator, you can
quickly and easily assemble the various graphical objects into your advertisement. The end
results are simply astonishing.
The graphics come in various formats for print ads and web sites and include GIF, TIF
and EPS. They also come in black and white outlines (800 ppi) as well as CMYK with
clipping paths (325 ppi). The clarity is excellent even when the graphics are reduced to
an inch high.
These artists are all top-notch pros -- no amateurs here. They have a ton of awards
behind them and years of experience. When you purchase their CD, you are getting a product
which is the result of years of development.
