BeNet (New to Network)
BeNet is a phone over IP application. It allows two users or more to
have a discussion over a TCP network. There are two ways users can
connect. First, using the other user's IP address. Second, using an
address server (included with BeNet) who keeps track of all online
users (like ICQ).
Version 1.0 beta:
- Discussion is only available between two users
- For the moment, the address server is in Java, so either wait for
the BeOS JVM to come out, or run it on a Java compatible platform.
- The audio codec used is g.723

Davis California. DrumCircle is Shareware($6 US).
ES1879 Driver (New to Drivers)
Playback and CD-ROM currently supported.
ID3tag (New to Audio)
This is a user friendly id3 tagger for BeOS, based very partially from the
ideas of a command line program, called ID3ren. It can retrieve and save
information about an mp3 file, so you know what you are listening to. It is my
first attempt to a serious BeOS application. (apart from "HelloWorld")
You can look at the source code, but for now it is quite an offensive piece of
code. Don't expect to learn much from it.
It is not completely bugless, but it has not destroyed any of my mp3s yet. It
is still BETA, so don't blame me on whatever it does wrong. Please inform me of
any bugs you come across.

Layout Manager lib (New to Libraries)
LM is a simplistic layout manager (!), largely inspired from the TK packer.
The implementation is not robust, not polished, not finished... but it works well,
I use for some times now in my dev, and I thought it could be usefull for all.
Everybody wanting to work on this lib is welcome;

of this set is to allow every BeOS
developper to handle implementation

not possible with linux or java.

UAE for BeOS R4 (New to Miscellaneous)
Notes: Sound is presently broken, use at your own peril!!!
Check the Readme.NOW file for details.
I've taken over the reins for updating UAE for BeOS. I've
successfully built UAE 0.7.6 (the latest stable version)
After beating on the configure script for months, and trying to
work around R4 ebx register incompatibilities, I got it to build with
the help of Bernd Schmidt (the original UAE author), John "Soco"
Robinson, Dan Berlin, Rapheal Moll and the emotional support of Team
Tave' and the #bedev IRC channel. :)
I will be attempting to keep up with the *latest* versions
and will be releasing the 0.8.7 experimental version as soon
as I get time to build it, and make sure it runs.
There will be a new preferences panel and features added to the Be
port to bring it on par with the other ports over the course of the
next few months.
Email me if you have suggestions for special features that only
BeOS can offer. :)

at a designated time span.
NTFS Filesystem Driver (New to Add-Ons)
This is a work in progress for a NTFS read/only driver.
It's pretty flaky, but the worst that can happen is your machine
locking up. It cannot kill your partition.
Anyway, it works ok here, but there still are some cases where things
dont read right, mostly with compressed reads, and stuff like that.
Basically, don't trust anything you read from an NTFS volume, but it
works well for playing MP3, etc..
This application will be worked on soon, and you'll see a completely
stable version of this in the future, I promise.
OpaqueMenus (New to Development)
Source code and sample program to implement opaque/translucent
pop-up and pulldown menus. PowerPC and x86 project files included.

Thanks to Ben for the x86 compile.
Mount CDDA (New to Miscellaneous)
This is simply an automated mount/unmount shell script for Marco
Nelissen's CDDA filesystem addon. It will automatically find the path
to the first CDROM device on your system so you don't have to. It
mounts the CDDA when you execute it (of course) but it also checks to
see if the CDDA is already mounted and if so, it will UNMOUNT the
CDDA, cleaning up after itself.
This also comes with an updated (working) version of my installer
script that uses alert dialog boxes to interact with the user, and
will create links to the un/mount script in the Be menu, as well as a
link to the WAV files of the freshly mounted CDDA. Both shortcuts are
optional with the alert dialogs.
The only pitfalls I'm aware of are that the shortcut to the CDDA
directory in the Be menu will show up as a broken link when a CDDA
isn't mounted. I don't know of a way around this. :( The other
pitfall is it currently only uses the first CDROM drive in the
heirarchy, so it might not work right if you have multiple drives.
I'm thinking about trying to find a way around this in case people
are interested. So let me know if you are.

Uptime client (New to Utilities)
Uptime is a program that keeps track of your servers uptime, and lets
you compare it with the uptime of many other hosts.
XScreenSaver Modules (New to Add-Ons_Saver)
NOTE: THIS REQUIRES "GENKI" OR LATER! You won't be able to use these
with R4; I released them now because of the larger audience of
"Genki" beta testers.
NOTE: Your savers will stop working with Genki/5 unless you download
and install Collection 4 or later. Sorry about that; it wasn't entirely my
fault and a bug has been filed (against "make" of all things).
xscreensaver has a huge number of pretty cool modules. Here they are
for BeOS's ScreenSaver system. Check out the Screen Shots to see what
they look like.
Note that this is a work in progress... they're not all here yet.
Here's what you get:
- re-linked so they'll work under Genki/5 and later
- fixes, cleanups, tweaks on previous modules
- PowerPC versions
- fixes, cleanups, tweaks on the Release 1 modules
A screen without cool screen savers just isn't fun!

GDB 4.17.87 for R4 x86 (New to Development)
GDB is the GNU Debugger.
It is a source level debugger that is amazingly feature filled.
It supports multiple threads, thread specific breakpoints and

This is a major update to my GDB port, as we merged the source to
4.17.87 (which will become 4.18 in a few weeks), and i fixed every
If you are tired or annoyed by trying to use BDB to actually get
things done, try this (It won't crash, either).
However, it has a command line interface, which will take about an
hour to learn, maximum, and isn't archaic to use.
For those who have a machine not running BeOS around, and know what
DDD is, you can use DDD to debug your BeOS apps, email me for details.
For those interested in remote debugging (IE over TCP/IP or a serial
line, such as a modem), email me for details
I've included a readme in the archive that answers the common
questions i get, please read it before emailing me questions, I will
simply delete any email that contains a question that is answered
