Description:
The main reason for writing obzip was not to compete with zip but to show an example use of the Oberon-2 interface to the bzip2 library and the use of a compression channel which rides on top of a binary writer channel. Basically a channel is similar to a Unix pipe or filter concept except channels perform compile-time type checking and thus are safer than the pipe or filter. Channels also have attached methods which make them much more intelligent than pipes or filters. Please also visit the application web site for the web-browsable source code in Oberon-2. Variables, procedures, and methods in the source can be browsed to see how a typical Oberon-2 application is created. This same source compiles on any system which uses the oo2c compiler. People are encouraged to modify the source and add their own extensions. I would appreciate hearing about any additions so they can be incorporated into the next "official" release.
