Meet Mail-It!

BeatWare Mail-It is a fun, easy to use email package that offers all of the features that people expect from a high-end email program, and then some. Mail-It provides support for multiple email accounts, in-line attachments, sophisticated filtering, address books, and multiple signatures. You also get features which use the built-in advantages of the BeOS such as MIME support, importing and exporting from the BeOS people database, and the ability to send and receive email simultaneously.

Because Mail-It is built around a single-window interface, already familiar to most email users, it's easy to jump right in and use the program. An intuitive menu and icon system make Mail-It easy to navigate, and thorough documentation means that should you have a question about using the program, the answer is only a click away.

To facilitate switching over from your old email program, Mail-It makes it easy to import existing address books from virtually any other email program (currently supported: Eudora, Claris Emailer, Microsoft Mail and News, BeOS People files, and ASCII text files.) You can currently import your email BeMail or Adam, and in an upcoming release, you will be able to import email from other programs as well.

Basic Features

Set Up
Configuring BeatWare Mail-It is as easy as opening the Accounts Window in the View/Settings/ menu, and entering the relevant information.

Composing and Sending Email
To compose an email, simply select "New Mail" from the Mail menu. A familiar-looking window will appear with a space for recipient(s), attachment(s), message, and signature. Enter the name and address of the recipient, or drag and drop their people icon from the address book. Then, compose your message in the message window, add any attachments, choose your sig and hit the send mail icon.

The Address Book
Mail-It's Address Book allows you to store names, email addresses, and comments. The Address book is searchable by name, address, or comment, which means that no matter how large your list of contacts, you'll never lose them in the crowd. Names and addresses can be imported into the Address Book from a variety of sources with the click of a button: received email, sent email, other email packages.

Getting Mail
To get mail, first connect to your email account(s). This can be done manually through the Connections window, available by selecting Choose Mailbox from the Mailbox menu, or you can set it to happen automatically. From your Inbox, you can open, respond to, delete or file your new messages. To read a message, simply use your mouse to double-click on it to open. The contents of the message appears in the white area at the bottom of the window.

Filtering
Creating filters allows you to sort, prioritize, and label email, making you a lean, mean, email machine. There are two modes for creating filters in Mail-It: Simple and Compound. Simple mode allows you to sort incoming and existing mail by preset fields that you select (From, To, Cc, Reply-to, etc.) Compound mode allows you to add conditional constraints. Both modes allow you to specify actions alerts and parameters for filtered messages. Filtering can be applied automatically to incoming messages or manually to any folder such as your Inbox.

Organizing Email
Mail-It includes a number of handy features to enable you to keep track of all your email. Use Mail-It's priority indicators as visual reminders of important emails, or add a color label to easily distinguish between those that require a response or follow-up action. And for those of you who can't get organized no matter what cool features Mail-It provides, there's a Find feature which will find your keyword in any field, in any folder.

Summary
Beat Ware Mail-It is an outstanding application for email on the BeOS. The ease of use, functionality, and advanced features are complimented by the fact that it is so easy to move to Mail-It from your old email package. And at $39 (US) Mail-It is virtually impossible to refuse!
