MySQL and BLOBs in MySQL
Contributed by Mike Hillyer

MySQLOne of MySQL's strengths is its use of Binary Large Object (BLOB) columns. These columns store unprocessed binary data, typically files, that can be retrieved and manipulated like the other common datatypes. The difficulty comes in accessing the BLOB column in VB. Prior to ADO 2.5, the only way to move data in and out of a MySQL BLOB column using Visual Basic was to use the appendchunk and getchunk methods. With ADO 2.5, the stream object has been added, greatly simplifying the process of working with MySQL BLOBs. In this article, I will focus entirely on using the stream object.  Discuss this Article!

The authors encourage writing strong enforcement statements of acceptable use policies (AUPs) and provide examples of wordings and a best practices checklist. They cover how to limit authority and separate duties and how to pinpoint accountability. The chapter is from Network Security: The Complete Reference, by Mark Rhodes-Ousley, Roberta Bragg and Keith Strassberg; ISBN:0-072-22697-8, McGraw-Hill/Osborne, 2003.  Discuss this Article!

Two Lessons in ASP and MySQL in MySQL
Contributed by Justin Cook
Article Rating:starstarstarstarstar / 4
2004-05-10

MySQLASP and MySQL are designed and distributed with completely different rationale, not to mention by two very different companies. But there is a good chance that you may want these two technologies for your dynamic application, in which case you need them to 'talk' to each other. One major obstacle to this could be that they differ in their handling of dates and times. This article will show you two functions you can implement to allow them to communicate peacefully, without trying to re-configure date/time formatting in either.

Introduction to Objects and Classes in C#, Part 2 in C#

C#After I wrote the article named Introduction to Objects and Classes in C#, I got a lot of e-mail messages asking me to create a series of articles about Objects and Classes. Actually this was a few months back (sorry for being late), but I'm here again with part two. In Part one, I explained the concepts behinds Objects and Classes but I didn't discuss why Object Oriented Programming (OOP) uses the Object and Class technique. Today, I will discuss the advantage of Objects and Classes with more details on how to understand your problems and develop your Objects for your solution.  Discuss this Article!

ASP Tools for Software Development in Web Services

Web ServicesOnce upon a time, when computers were so expensive that not all companies could afford them, most of the processing was performed by specialized firms that rented computer time and services. Some of these organizations have a long history of providing such services; for instance, ADP. The development of Internet and Web-based applications has offered these firms a new infrastructure to offer their services. These companies are known as Applications Services Providers (ASPs). ASPs provide mainly software applications for the basic business functions of a company: human resources, accounting or customer relations, but there are also some organizations targeting the software development domain.  Discuss this Article!
