The Switch

For Release 4 of the BeOS for Intel we have changed both our developer tools and our binary format. Applications that ran under R3 will not run under R4; the developer will have to recompile the code and perhaps make some code changes.

A change of this nature has a profound effect on developing for the BeOS. The following sections explain the ramifications of this decision.
