The distributed.net group is a distributed computing effort coordinating large numbers of cooperating machines over the Internet to solve huge problems. In this case, they're taking on 56-bit RC5 encryption in the RSA Labs Secret Key Challenge at <http://www.rsa.com/rsalabs/97challenge/>. This is a port of their key checking client; all BeOS users are invited to take part and show off what their platform is capable of -- a certain other PowerPC OS is making quite an impressive showing.
