Description:
The Word Services Suite allows any application to link to a speller, grammar checker, address book or other text service as if it was a built in menu item. It is a public protocol - no license fee or nondisclosure agreement is required to use it. Word Services is good for users as you can share a single speller, and a single dictionary among all your applications that use Word Services. You can have a single interface for spelling, and the you are not stuck with a built-in speller. If you don't like the speller your application came with, you can use another, or even add several, one for each language that you use. It's not just for spellchecking - it can be used for any operation on text that software publishers wish to provide. It is good for developers because it saves you time, money, memory and disk space. You don't have to debug someone else's weird OEM speller to add spellchecking to your application. It protects your application; if something goes wrong with the speller, the BeOS' memory protection keeps your app running. Word Services allows you to work the BeOS way, with small modular applications that communicate via BMessages. The BeOS provides some unique advantages that make this work particularly well on Be. The SDK provides sample source code to several Word Services clients, as well as the Spellswell Demo. New in 1.0.3d1 - fixed some bugs in background highlighting, got working on Intel R4 (R3 still supported). If you have any questions about the information provided for a specific application, please e-mail the author. If you have any questions about the BeWare pages themselves, though, feel free to e-mail webmaster@be.com. | ||||||
