BE® AND METROWERKS® ANNOUNCE CLOSER DEVELOPMENT RELATIONSHIP FOR BEOS™ TOOLS

MENLO PARK, California (March 19, 1998) -- Be, Inc. and Metrowerks, Inc. announced today that they have renewed their existing development relationship for a further five years and have broadened it to include tools for the BeOS for Intel product also announced today.

The new agreement covers both PowerPC and Intel Architecture development tools for the BeOS. Under the agreement, Be will manage the strategic direction of the CodeWarrior™ Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the BeOS and Metrowerks will concentrate on delivering the best compiler, linker and library technology for Be Developers.

Marketing, sales and support of the CodeWarrior for BeOS product will be managed by Be, providing its developers with one-stop shopping for the operating system and its development tools.

"Metrowerks has been one of Be's best, most loyal and most effective partners," said Jean-Louis Gassée, Chairman & CEO of Be, Inc. "We're delighted to extend our relationship to include tools support for the BeOS for Intel; it gives us the ability to tailor and extend the CodeWarrior IDE specifically to the needs of our developers."

"The BeOS is one of today's most exciting software products," said Jean Bélanger, Chairman & CEO of Metrowerks, Inc. "Its availability on the Intel Architecture platform extends its reach to thousands of new developers. We're proud to provide the CodeWarrior tools that will enable a whole new class of interactive media applications on the BeOS."

Effective immediately, Be will assume responsibility for supporting developers using CodeWarrior tools for the BeOS. This support will be provided by Be's existing Developer Technical Support group, who already work closely with BeOS developers.

CodeWarrior for BeOS is available for both the PowerPC and Intel architectures through Be's web site, http://www.be.com/. The price for the combined release is $129.
